When the Spanish missionaries came they asks the natives what is the name of the place. The people could not understand what’s the visitor is asking so they could only say “Agustin” referring to their Chieftain. Soon the missionaries recorded the name of the place “Agustin”. When the natives finlly converted to Christianity they adopted Saint Agustine as their Patron Saint. As time passes the place was finally called San Agustin in honor of the brave chieftain and their patron saint.
