A coastal clean-up drive was held last Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Barangay Taberna, headed by Bauang Municipal Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III. It was facilitated by Commissioner Reymar R. Mansilungan from the National Commission on Senior Citizens (NCSC), along with six (6) other employees from the NCSC. Present were Mr. Marc Alvin T. Garcia, Department Head for Bauang Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO), Biodiversity Researcher Ms. Torrey Raquel Gorra, Office of the Senior Citizens’ Affairs (OSCA) under the Mayor’s Office of the Municipal Government of Bauang, senior citizen-volunteers, other officials, and employees. It was also the celebration of Elderly Filipino Week (Oct. 1-7, 2024).

Commissioner Mansilungan represents Region 1, 2, 3, and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) of the NCSC. The Commission picked the Municipality of Bauang out of all the cities and municipalities in the cluster to celebrate the Elderly Filipino Week.

More agencies are choosing clean-ups in Bauang as their activity. We see this as a sign that Bauang is a beacon of environment protection in the Philippines, paving the way for the title, “Green City” by 2030.
