On Tuesday, March 25, 2025, Municipal Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III led the distribution of the cash assistance to the scholars of Bauang, a program of the Municipality of Bauang since 2011. The scholars were categorized as the scholars under the Bauang Educational Assistance Scholars Program (BEASP), Athletics, and Youth Choir. A total of 155 scholars were granted the assistance.

Also present was the Committee Chairperson for Education, Hon. Myrna U. Ligas, Sangguniang Bayan Member (SBM), who shared her massive support toward education. She recalled that it was her aim to never put a failure mark on students. She would always find ways to provide alternative tests for them, if need be. Failing students can be detrimental to their self-esteem and motivation, especially when life already presents numerous challenges.

The Municipal Treasurer, Ms. Violeta B. Abenoja, facilitated the distribution of the cash assistance.

Mayor De Guzman emphasized the importance of Bauang’s co-ownership of the Bauang Power Plant, which was sold by the Provincial Government of La Union (PGLU) in 2022. He gave an overview of the timeline of events surrounding the sale, reinforcing Bauang’s rightful claim to co-ownership. He assured that when the funds from the sale come in, a percentage will be allocated to the education sector, laying out the Municipality’s commitment to investing in its youth.

He further thanked the dedication of the scholars and envisioned that they will be the next leaders of the Municipality.
