The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Bauang, under the leadership of Municipal Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III, received the Seal of Child-Friendly Local Governance, landing third highest province-wide, on November 22, 2024, at the La Union Convention Center, San Fernando City, La Union.
Aside from the awarding of the Seal, our local Child-Development Worker from Barangay Pagdalagan Sur named Arleen O. Buenviaje was also awarded as Top 1 at the Ten Outstanding Child Development Workers in the Province of La Union. There was also a talent segment for children, or the Salisal Dagiti Ubing ti La Union, which landed Bauang at 2nd Place for Solo Vocal (Cheska Jane C. Estalilla, Sta. Monica Child Development Center) and 2nd Place for Draw and Tell (Romalyn D. Roxas, Calumbaya Child Development Center).
The officials from LGU Bauang who gratefully received the award were Hon. Tanya Roberta A. De Guzman, Sangguniang Bayan Member (SBM), Pagdalagan Sur Barangay Captain Marcelo Aromin, Municipal Local Government Operations Officer (MLGOO) Helen L. Jubilado, Department Head for Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) Ms. Arlie R. Alonzo, RSW, and Mr. Jovan P. Lanang, Local Youth Development Officer (LYDO).
The Seal is conferred by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Council for the Welfare of Children to cities and municipalities who have passed the standards for child-friendly policies.
The system that conducts the audit since 2014 was the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA). It is anchored on national and international policies, namely, the AmBisyon 2040 crafted by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Philippine Development Plan (PDP), and the 3rd National Plan of Action for Children (3rd NPAC).
The awarding was in celebration of the Provincial Children’s Month.
