The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) of Bauang hosted the Monday Flag-Raising Ceremony today, September 23, 2024, with the values formation of “Commitment to Democracy,” discussed by Hon. Myrna U. Ligas, Sangguniang Bayan Member (SBM). Her talk emphasized the importance of democratic values and civic responsibility in the community, encouraging government employees to uphold their commitment to public service.

After the ceremony, Ms. Torrey Raquel Gorra was introduced as a US Peace Corps volunteer who will be serving in the Municipality of Bauang for two years, focusing on Coastal Resource Management, particularly in the Marine-Protected Area, and leading public awareness campaigns on marine biodiversity and conservation. As part of her role, she will also immerse herself in the local culture, traditions, and language. She will collaborate with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and the Municipal Agriculture Office (MAGO), under the supervision of the office of the Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator (MPDC). Ms. Gorra holds a degree in Marine Biology and has completed her Master’s Degree at a university in Belgium.

Following her introduction, certificates were awarded to participants of the recently concluded Camp Coordination and Camp Management Traning, which took place at Hotelinda Suites, Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

In line with celebrating the spirit of youth and creativity, the event also honored the winners of the Mural Painting, Chalk Art, and Logo Making contests, held as part of the 2024 Linggo ng Kabataan celebration last August 31, 2024. The event was organized by the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation of Bauang, led by SK Federation President Hon. Rich Carlo Barnachea. Certificates, trophies, and cash prizes were awarded to the outstanding young artists whose works highlighted the vibrancy and aspirations of the local youth.

The ceremony concluded with a message from Acting Mayor, Hon. Henry A. Bacurnay Jr., who commended the efforts of the BJMP, the local government, and the youth sector in promoting unity, creativity, and community spirit. He urged everyone to continue their active participation in shaping a better Bauang.
