This is the latest project of Barangay Baccuit Norte in Bauang, La Union. Every Friday 6:00PM since July 26, 2024, Barangay Health Workers (BHW) have been cooking a large quantity of Monggo, one of the staple viands in the Filipino culture. It is headed by Punong Barangay Abraham Paolo C. Mendoza and supported by Municipal Mayor Eulogio Clarence Martin P. De Guzman III.

This initiative by Barangay Baccuit Norte adheres to the MNAO’s reminder last July 31, 2024, during the Municipal Nutrition Month Program, of the PPAN or the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028. The PPAN is a roadmap penned by the National Nutrition Council (NNC) requiring all LGUs to address children malnutrition starting at conception.

Monggo is known to have 24g of protein per 100g of serving and is also rich in iron and calcium essential for the health of pregnant women and children. Everyone is welcome to get their share, prioritizing said women and children. Everyone is also encouraged to bring their own containers to promote the zero waste movement.

It is recalled last May 10, 2024, that the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) released a memorandum addressed to all national and local government heads. It has the title, “Adoption and Implementation of the Philippine Plan of Action for for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028.” It says that “To effectively address the alarming levels of malnutrition in the country, the National Nutrition Council (NNC), in consultation with various stakeholders from national government agencies (NGAs), local government units (LGUs), non-government organizations (NGOs), development partners, and academic institutions, formulated and approved the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028 on 12th July 2023.

Every January and July, each LGU in the country is required to submit an accomplishment report regarding the PPAN.
